The Hidden Gems of Leicester’s Coffee Scenes: Our Top Three

1.  Saints of Mokha
Overall Rating: 8.5/10
Saints of Mokha offers an exceptional coffee experience- their pour-over and batch brew is some of the best we have tasted in our coffee journey. While the espresso does not appeal to us as much, the skill and dedication of the baristas shine through in every cup.

The interior would appeal to the minimalists who appreciate simplicity, creating a serene atmosphere for enjoying coffee, and their latte art is the best we have seen boasting everything from bunnies to sea horses and swans to flowers. Omar the head barista is truly a master of his craft.

They are also home to some of the most unique coffee we have seen: the Luna Latte is a prominent turquoise colour, their Red Velvet Latte is a deep velvet colour, and their Turmeric Latte is a rich golden colour.

Despite limited food options, the friendly service more than compensates. Peak times are likely to lead to crowded conditions. Nevertheless, the quality of the coffee at Saints of Mokha makes it a standout destination for any coffee enthusiast.

2.  Northern Cobbler
       Overall Rating: 7.5/10
Northern Cobbler is nestled in a prime location on Queens Road, a road full of cheer and adventure. The minimalistic and modern interior gives a spacious feeling to the café, securing a welcoming environment.
The espresso is perfect for speciality coffee enthusiasts, with a distinct citrus taste. The friendly and knowledgeable staff further enhance the experience. We also love the selection of food, this is where we discovered our love for Pasties de Nata.

The only downside to Northern Cobbler is its popularity, the café is often quite busy with coffee enthusiasts so you need to get their early to secure your seat! Despite the minimal seating, Northern Cobbler promises a rewarding coffee experience in the heart of Leicester.

3. Merchant of Venice
Overall Rating: 7/10
Although the Merchant of Venice does not specialise in speciality coffee, its dedication to traditional Italian coffee culture. To honour our Venetian Voyage speciality coffee we were compelled to visit. The dark and robust coffee reflects the authentic flavors of Italy, providing a nostalgic experience for aficionados.

As we know in Italian tradition cafes are called bars which is why you might find the Merchant of Venice to be beaming with people enjoying food and drinks, embodying the essence of Italian café culture. The selection of food and drinks is very well versed. Nonetheless, you can always enjoy a simple cup of coffee in a vibrant location.

The atmosphere is amazing with friendly staff and hand painted décor celebrating Shakespeare. This is a must place to visit for those who love history, culture, and good coffee, exactly everything that we stand for at the Silk Road Coffee Co. A noteworthy destination for those seeking a taste of Italy in Leicester.
